Tom & The Verri Family
Tom’s family is from Ponza Italy on his Father’s side and Abruzzo on his Mother’s side. Raised in Belmont, The Little Italy section of The Bronx, Tom’s love for Italian food and cooking began at an early age as his childhood home was filled with the aromas of Bail, Garlic and amazing Tomato Sauce and fresh baked bread.
Tom began his career in the restaurant industry at age 15 baking bread for Gruenbaum’s Bakery in The Bronx and later worked for his mentor, Sergio Cavalli, owner of The Venice Restaurant in The Bronx, NY. Tom then moved to Geppetto’s Ristorante, another iconic restaurant in The Bronx. As Chef de Commis (Junior Chef) Tom prepared a variety of Italian cuisine and later moved into the Chef de Partie (Station Chef) position preparing salads and desserts.
Tom attended S.U.N.Y, State University of New York’s Culinary Arts Program in 1991. As an Entrepreneur Tom has owned and operated two Franchise Restaurants and owned Patty Cakes Bakery in Fernandina Beach Florida before coming to Hendersonville, NC.

GLAD TO SEE YOU
Lived here for generations, just moved here, or visiting our historic downtown, we're always glad to see you.
This place was recommended to us by the wonderful folks from the moonshine distillery in town, and it did not disappoint! They have the usual food you would expect in a tavern, burgers, sandwiches, etc. I had the turkey, apple brie sandwich, and it was amazing!!!! Hubby had the black and blue burger and didn't talk the entire time he was eating! Beer cheese is excellent as well. Servers are attentive and efficient.
Enjoyed our first visit to this nice little tavern. We had no trouble at all getting a booth at 4pm. Our server, Cohen, was super pleasant and helpful. Really enjoyed the buffalo chicken egg rolls. The beer cheese was delicious. And I loved the sweet tea, which was properly "southern sweet." The prices were reasonable and we'll be back to try some other menu items.
Hendersonville is a terrific town with lots of restaurant options. Brooks Tavern is situated about a block off busy Main Street and presents itself to my eye as a "locals" kind of place. I like the friendliness of that description. The menu is classic tavern and they have a chalk board with maybe a dozen draft beer options. There was a great looking selection of beers.
